Lahfawnduh spent her youth in the fringes of Drow society. She was primarily raised by her father who was one of many consorts to her mother, a noble of lower stature. As a child, Lahfawnduh showed no special strengths, especially not an aptitude for magic or politics which would have increased her worth to her mother. She was frequently targeted by her half-siblings, all of whom were competing to be acknowledged by her mother. Lahfawnduh avoided face-to-face conflict, preferring instead to subdue her tormentors when they least expected it. One half-sibling in particular, Shaneequah, who had a knack for politics, found ways to claim Lahfawnduh’s stealthy deeds as her own.
She was barely scraping by with regards to her ability to measure up to the rigorous standards of Drow society. She developed a rebellious attitude and a sharp tongue. She did not respect her elders and the more she was punished the more stubborn she became. Although no one could point to a particular incident that would justify her as a sacrifice to Lolth, she was on very thin ice.
Preferring the company of her band of street urchins to the political pressure of Drow society, Lahfawnduh spent more time in the skids working as a thug for whichever underworld gangster needed muscle and could offer the best price. When she was hired as extra muscle for an plot against her mother that ultimately went sour, she finally found herself with a death warrant on her head.
Fleeing the Underdark, she traveled through various towns, stealing what she needed when she needed it and providing her usual services to the local underworld. Recently she and several other thugs had been hired by the Tortosa government to participate in a staged mutiny on a merchant ship heading for Mazara. They succeeded in overtaking the ship and landing in Tortosa. Lahfawnduh was negotiating payment with the ship’s cook (the agent who’d hired them), when everything went dark…
Lahfawnduh’s last clear memory was waking up in an alley in Tortosa with a big lump on her head and a raging headache. Finding her pockets empty, and her paranoia sparked, she slipped out of Tortosa. While travelling she encountered a party of adventurers that looked like they could use a little extra muscle. Always up for a profit and an adventure, Lahfawnduh joined them :)
A Little More about Lahfawnduh
Lolth and religion in general – She believes in the gods and respects them enough to leave them the hell alone. Religion seems to be a lot more trouble than it’s worth from what she’s seen of what the hardcore Lolth worshippers go through. She doesn’t trust anything divine or arcane as it was frequently used to harm or threaten her. She trusts tangible things she can stab.
As far as Drow stuff goes, she’s a bit of a rebel and doesn’t really buy into the traditional Drow beliefs. Having been on the short end of the stick of many situations in Drow society, especially from those who sought being the idealization of the Drow values, probably the biggest insult to Lahfawnduh is someone remarking on how “Drow” she’s behaving (although she really is very “Drow” she just won’t admit it). Also given that she was essentially rejected by Drow society and she could never meet their rigorous standards she’s a little resentful of Drow society. She has issues. ;)
Lahfawnduh’s motivation is to make money and stay out of the drama. She also enjoys kicking around weaker people. Generally she doesn’t like to draw a lot of attention to herself since people are already put off by her Drowedness. However she is prone to boasting to less significant and weaker people. Also she enjoys intimidating onlookers with glares and threats, like “what are you looking at” “you got a problem”. If the target seems weaker than her she might even find some excuse to start a bar brawl with them. She’s basically a big bully with an inflated ego to compensate for her low self-esteem.
In terms of the bigger picture (e.g. outside of the tavern), she leaves folks alone as long as they don’t bother her. If someone pays her to rough them up a bit, it’s nothing personal, elf’s gotta make a living. She prefers not to kill people unless they are out to kill her. Kicking them around until they surrender to her is much more fulfilling.
She doesn’t really have any life goals or great aspirations. She just wants enough money to fulfill her basic needs and enough adventure so she doesn’t get bored. She really likes adventuring and isn’t too keen to stay in one place too long because she gets on many a tavern’s and city guard’s black list, although she believes they are just prejudiced against Drow. She believes she is acting no differently than any Fighter or Barbarian, which may be true, but her fighting style is a little less… honorable. She’s also less likely to get too deeply entangled with any one particular crime organization or political faction if she keeps moving, thus she can’t be traced by any Drow agents that may be looking for escapees like herself (this might be paranoia though, she’s not really sure if there are any Drow agents, but as a young drowling she was threatened with many stories of what happens to Drow who run away…)
